Question #1 - Do you use Snapchat?
As a marketing decision-maker in your company, do you have a Snapchat business account?
If you just have Snapchat installed on your phone but have never used it once, fret not. You are probably not the only one.
What is Snapchat?
Snapchat is a popular social media platform popular with teenagers for sharing short videos that "self-destruct" within 24-hours.
These short video messages can be decorated and customised for users to share their life "in the moment".
In the latest survey conducted in February 2016 by Defy Media featuring 1,117 U.S.-based Snapchat users between the ages of 13-24, it was found that a mere 5% of users only used the promoted content section of Snapchat "Discover/ Live" or follow brands and celebrities.
Meanwhile, a whopping close to three quarters of users mainly used the app for chatting and taking snaps. Almost a quarter surveyed equally chat, snap, view the promoted content section and follow brands or celebrities.
This simply means that there is plenty of potential in reaching out to the close to three quarters or 71% of users who do not follow brands or view paid content much.
At the same time, there is a clear hint on the type of content Snapchat users would respond to better and prefer to interact with - personalised content.
The big question then is what type of personalised content would resonate with your users?
Question #2 - How does your company currently use Snapchat?
If you are already a Snapchat user, how do you use this social media messaging platform for your company?
Engaging friends and engaging fans are both very different matters. People follow friends for different motivations likewise when they follow brands.
Gaining followers for a brand can be an uphill task especially for a brand that is relatively un-established or new to the social media scene.
While "buying" followers through advertising dollars may get you numbers. These mere numbers certainly will not add as much value to your brand or the bottom-line at the end of the day.
3) How do you create Snapchat stories that are worth talking about and sharing?
A concentrated and continuous effort to push an effective message across to your users is one of many ways you can boost your Snapchat account popularity organically.
Back to basics
Without a strong brand name and a good marketing strategy, there can be no success on simply just jumping on the bandwagon and joining a new social network.
The way to gain followers and to rise up as an influential voice within your brand's community can be achieved by producing not just good quality, but timely and relevant content.
