Who says B2B marketing can't be fun or sexy? B2B marketing or business-to-business marketing has traditionally been dull, reserved and limited to a couple of print advertisements on industry or trade journals that hardly anyone has time to read any more these days.
Our favourite ad of this week is glass packaging manufacturer O-I (Owens-Illinois) group's "Glass is Life campaign" which was targeted at the emerging South American market audience.
As most parts of the developing world favour plastic packaging that not only contains well-know materials such as BPA or Bisphenol A which has been scientifically proven to be harmful to humans but the environmental as well. A typical plastic bottle has a lifespan of 450 years while polystyrene foam can remain intact for up to 5000 years.
Instead of taking the obvious environmental approach to the masses for their marketing campaign, O-I chose to create a humorous series of videos featuring different scenarios but all of them driving back to one single message - Glass is Life.
In the Glass is Life advertisements, glass is portrayed as the coolest, choice material for different situations and other common, cheaper form of materials such as aluminium, paper and plastic were used by unsuspecting protagonists of the show who were promptly humiliated for their poor choice.
